Valerie graduated from the University of Hong Kong with a Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering-Building Service Engineering in 2015. Her interest in the fusion of architectural lighting with the science of photons inspired her MFA in Lighting Design at Parsons School of Design in 2017.
Ms. Qin’s final thesis studied how light channels our perception of time and space and its potential to enhance physiological and psychological well-being. Her work was awarded with a 2017 IESNYC Thesis Prize and the 2017 IES Emerging Professional Sponsorship.
Valerie has been working as a freelance lighting designer since 2016 and was involved in retail projects in China. She began her full-time career at Cooley Monato Studio as a designer in 2017. There she designs and helps manage retail projects for Tiffany & Co. and Dolce & Gabbana, as well as hospitality projects such as The London NYC.
Ms. Qin is currently a member of the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IESNA).
