Jiyoung Bae joined Cooley Monato Studio in 2014 with an MFA in Lighting Design from the Parsons School of Design where she was awarded the IES NYC Thesis Prize in 2014. She also won Honorable Mention at the Cooper Lighting SOURCE Awards in 2014 and was an IALD Education Trust: Enlighten Americas stipend recipient in 2013. Prior to her studies at Parsons, she won First Place in the IES Los Angeles Lighting Design Competition in 2009.
At Cooley Monato Studio, Jiyoung works directly with clients, architects, engineers, contractors, lighting manufacturers, and project managers through the entire design process, from planning to installation to aiming. These projects include Pure Liquid Wine & Spirits and numerous locations for Tiffany & Co. worldwide.
Prior to joining Cooley Monato, she was an interior designer for education, residential, dining, and financial clients. She holds a Masters degree in Interior Environmental Design from Yonsei University in Seoul, South Korea, and holds a National Interior Architectural Engineer License and a National Colorist Engineer License in Korea. Jiyoung pursued a career in lighting design to bring together her passion and experience in interior design with the psychology of light, color, and human interaction with the built environment.
Jiyoung is currently a member of IES North America and IALD.
